Fresh off the podium, Olympic freeski big air champion Megan Oldham dives into the turquoise waters of Koh Samui — soaking up island life and delicious Thai food along the way.
Megan Oldham has spent most of her adult life chasing the greatest peaks. The Canadian freestyle skier reached new heights at Milano Cortina 2026, taking gold in big air and bronze in slopestyle, adding to a career decorated with multiple X Games medals and a World Cup slopestyle title. On the snow, she’s known for pushing the boundaries of what’s possible — doing the kind of tricks that leave most of us wondering how anyone lands them upright.
After her Olympic run, Megan traded the mountain for the coast, bringing family and friends along for the celebration. Why did you choose to travel to Koh Samui, Thailand? Was it your first time or are you a regular?
This was my first time in Thailand. I chose this destination because Thailand has this beautiful mix of stunning landscapes but also vibrant culture. I kept seeing photos of the gorgeous sand beaches, tropical landscapes, and towering islands. I knew Thailand would be the perfect place to relax while also getting to explore and immerse myself in the local culture.
Koh Samui was a highlight of our trip for that exact reason. The villas were peaceful and relaxing, while still within walking distance of local markets and restaurants, making it easy to enjoy the local culture.

What did you love most about your trip with The Luxe Nomad?
What I loved most about our trip with Luxe Nomad was that everything was taken care of from the moment we arrived. The villa staff handled everything, so I never felt stressed or anxious about organising things.
For instance, when we arrived, they booked scooters for us that were dropped off directly at the property. They also handled booking massages, setting up sports equipment for us, and even doing our laundry free of charge, which was so helpful. Just knowing everything is taken care of really allows you to unwind and fully enjoy the vacation.

What was the most impressive thing about the villas you stayed in?
Both properties we stayed at had amazing elements. I think, of course, the view at The View property was the best part. I’ve never experienced a property that overlooks such stunning scenery from all points of the villa. Waking up to the sparkling water that you can see from your bed really brings another level of peace and relaxation.
For Villa Akatsuki, I think the direct access to the beach and the outdoor living spaces were my favourite. It feels like you have your own private beach, and it’s so calming to read a book on the lounge chairs overlooking the water.

Can you share a few personal recommendations on how to best enjoy Koh Samui?
One of the places we visited in Koh Samui was Jump Shack. It’s a beach club of sorts, but more of an athletic edition, if you will. It features a high jump platform into a massive pool, incredible ocean views, a bar, lounge chairs, and games. It was such a fun place to spend the afternoon.
Another highlight was renting a scooter, which is by far the best way to explore the island. We spent the day discovering hidden beaches, back roads, and local gems we never would have found otherwise.
We also took a Muay Thai class while we were visiting in Koh Samui. There was one within walking distance from The View property, and it was a great workout and a fun way to experience Thai sports culture.

Did you try anything new during your stay?
We tried a new fruit for the first time during our stay at Villa Akatsuki. It was called mangosteen and was served by the staff at the villa during one of our breakfast meals. I had never heard of it before, but it was absolutely delicious.

What made this stay stand out from other places you’ve stayed?
The service you receive. The staff on-site cater to your every need, so you never have to think about anything. They booked scooters for us, massages, and had food and drinks prepped whenever you wanted.

Can you describe your favourite moment at the villas?
One of my favourite moments was watching the sunset at Villa Akatsuki. I would go out in the evening, go for a swim in the pool, and then sit on the lounge chairs next to the beach and just watch as the sun set.

Were there any thoughtful touches or unexpected luxuries at the villa that really impressed you?
Yes, the amazing smells in the rooms at Villa Akatsuki really impressed me. Each room had a different scent, and they were absolutely magical. It felt like walking into a spa, smelling eucalyptus or lavender. Also, The View villa had its own koi pond in the house, which was really crazy.
