Luxe eats review: Bikini in Bali

The concept

Bikini is all about fine dining without the etiquette. With a menu full of tapas-sized portions meant for sharing amongst close friends, Bikini aims to provide high quality and great tasting food while pumping up the volume.

To eat at Bikini, you’re meant to order a lot, share everything with your dining companions and have a party full of raucous laughter and tons of energy.

The vibe

Modern, sleek, chic but still cosy and casual. The double-height interior is dimly lit with a lot of modern and sleek tables and architecture. But don’t worry, it’s not intimidating at all! Bikini is seriously curvaceous with tons of textures and colours. One entire wall of Bikini is bright fuschia! The artist who painted the fuschia wall used paint-filled fire extinguishers to spray the wall (note to self: find fire extinguishers and do this at home). The restaurant makes you feel like you’re inside a party.

It’s actually quite sexy if you can describe a restaurant in such a way. It’s full-on Miami- fun crossed with New York-warehouse style.

You can choose to dine in their indoor garden, inside, or by the open air cocktail bar which gives you a pretty good view of the kitchen. When you sit by the bar, you can get a great view of the pro chefs whipping up your feast.

For who

This place is all about being with other adults. Whether you’re going as a couple or as a group of friends, Bikini is all about having a good time. It’s not exactly kid-friendly (the dishes are too complex for young palettes), but great for those who want excellent quality, and a fun dining experience, but don’t necessarily want to dress to the nines.

Bikini caters to all kinds of foodies (like those with food restrictions including gluten-free and vegetarian). You can get what you crave here.

The best thing to order

Feed Me!

The menu is split into five categories: Mouthfuls, Small, Grilled, Garden and Sweet. If you’re indecisive or overwhelmed by their menu (there are too many amazing looking things to try), the best thing to do is to try their Feed Me option.

The Feed Me option basically moves the decision of what to eat into the hands of the chef himself, ridding you of the paradox of choice. And if you’re wondering what the chef’s selections are based on, it’s on what he thinks goes well together. I mean, you can’t go wrong with that, right?

If you’re going a la carte, try the chicken satay and the eggplant curry!

The dishes could not be more beautifully plated either. Get ready for some serious ‘oohing’ and ‘aahing’, as your salivatory glands kick into full throttle.

The best time to go

Dinner. Get ready to spend a few hours here. The Feed Me option, if that is what makes you happy (it will), takes approximately 2 hours.

Most Instagrammable Spot

We have to talk about the bathrooms. They have these super cool neon quotes that are just calling out to you. They demand selfies.

Seriously, people don’t go to the bathroom to actually use the toilet in Bikini. They go to the bathroom to take that selfie. Just learn how to master your angles because when we tried, it took 10+ minutes and lots of wiggling around trying to get the perfect shot. Anything for the ‘gram, right?

P.S. – Try to go to the bathrooms late, so people won’t complain you’re hogging them.

What else you should know

Bikini is pretty easy to find. They have a red neon sign that says “U LOOK HOT IN BIKINI” out front! By the end of the night too, I have to say, we did look pretty hot in Bikini (although that may have been the fantastic cocktails talking).

Our servers were amazingly attentive, providing us with everything we didn’t even know we needed. (Hello good lighting for taking IG photos hehe!). They were incredibly friendly and patient too, helping explain the menu and some of the other items/ingredients we weren’t familiar with.
