The PARKROYAL on Pickering, a PARKROYAL Collection Hotel in Singapore is a very special building. More alive with plants than concrete. It flows in waves and layers. Each room enjoys a view of the hotel itself. On first arriving into the room, I was excited to see floor-to-ceiling windows down the length of the bedroom and bathroom, affording huge views of the building’s jungle life. It was lovely to lie in the bath with such a great view.

The rooms are modern, as are the bathrooms, which allow the building to speak. Although getting to your room is not for the faint of vertigo heart. You have to walk down an open air corridor, and since the best views are higher up I recommend that’s what you request. You’re rewarded for your bravery with two pieces of free laundry and a complimentary soft drink mini bar.
I love the Orchid Lounge, found on the top floor of the hotel. Wonderful views and the most delicious complimentary breakfast and tea is served there. For once, breakfast lasts till 11 am which means they actually took jet lag into consideration! There are also evening cocktails till 8 pm every night. Get a corner window table to really enjoy the views.
The neighbourhood around the hotel is perfect for first-time tourists to Singapore. Chinatown and lovely streets like Ann Siang Hill (with one of my favourite eateries P.S Cafe) are within walking distance. The low rise painted buildings with wooden shutters are must-sees in Singapore. Although I have been many times I still love to wander the streets. A great place to eat in the evenings, and catch a market too. Wear cool clothes, if it’s crowded it can get hot.
Take me away.
