#1 National Kitchen by Violet Oon + 28 Hong Kong Street
Eat: The location is iconic, and the food is authentic Peranakan in a sophisticated setting, and the service – faultless. All-in-all, a great start to the evening.
Address: #02-01 National Gallery, 1 St Andrews Road
Drink: From the elegant National Gallery, to the unassuming facade of 28 Hong Kong street? Your date maybe perplexed, but a sip of one of their delicious and complex cocktails and you’ll both see that you’re on a date that just keeps winning (And indeed, this is one of Singapore’s top award-winning bars).
Address: 28 Hong Kong Street
#2 Atlas Bar + Gunther’s
Drink: Go for pre-dinner drinks, because Atlas is that kind of place. It impresses from the get-go, with its art-deco inspiration, floor-to-ceiling gin tower, plush leather and velvet seating. It also boasts the world’s largest collection of gin, a Champagne room with some 250 labels, and the requisite experts to guide you on a match-made-in-heaven (drink). Make sure you dress the part.
Address: Parkview Square, 600 North Bridge Road
Eat: If you’re gonna go, go all out with a meal at award-winning, contemporary French Gunther’s. Here the cold angel hair with Oscietra caviar is a menu stalwart, perfect for you and your date to share and have a Lady & The Tramp moment (we’re thinking that noodle scene in the Disney cartoon!).
Address: 36 Purvis Street
#3 Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chop House + Jigger & Pony
Eat: Oysters are aphrodisiacs and sometime’s watching a man (or woman) digging into a rare steak has an aphrodisiacal effect too. Oh and its a classy, dependable joint.
Address: 22 Gemmill Lane
Drink: You’ve had your serious meal and Q & A session, now its time to let your hair down and REALLY get to know each other better. We love the buzz (and the drinks) at Jigger & Pony, and we’re betting you will too.
Address: 101 Amoy Street
#4 The Horse’s Mouth + Kazu Sumiyaki
Drink: This discreet, Japanese-inspired bar is the perfect secret bar to impress your date with. Located unexpectedly at the Forum shopping mall, the atmosphere is intimate and the cocktails inventive.
Address: B1-39, Forum The Shopping Mall
Eat: In keeping with the Japanesey theme, go from discreet to buzzing with the beloved Kazu. Smoke will really get into your eyes, but the speciality yakitori here will make it all worth it. And is there anything more romantic than sharing a skewer with your lover?
Address: 04-05 Cuppage Plaza
#5 The Tuck Shop + Sin Huat Eating House
Drink: On a more ‘local’ vein, The Tuck Shop is a restored corner shoplot in historic Geylang, serving craft beers, ciders and wines in a nostalgic and relaxed setting. We like this as a relaxed start to the night, getting you ready for a more serious dinner/supper.
Address: 403 Guillemard Road
Eat: It doesn’t have to be fancy on date night, it just has to be delicious and interesting. Sin Huat Eating House’s Crab Bee Hoon is the stuff dreams (and midnight cravings) are made of. Silky, tasty noodles, succulent crabs offering up sweet juicy flesh – is it date night yet?
Address: 659 Lorong 35, Geylang Road
#6 Bincho + Coq & Balls
Food: Yakitori omakase by night. Mee Pok by day. Old-school, Tiong Bahru coffee shop. Back alley entrance. Not just hip but also delicious. Win!
Address: 78 Moh Guan Terrace
Drink: Well the name takes the cake doesn’t it? But really, Coq & Balls promises an edgy setting, great music and most importantly, a stellar bar. This date will be the perfect balance of food and fun (and hipsters).
Address:6 Kim Tian Road
#7 Bob’s Bar, Capella Singapore + Il Lido at The Cliff, Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort
Drink: The very classy Bob’s Bar is rum-focused and will take you to Havana of the 1950s and 60s, don’t forget the white linen and Panama Hat. Sit al fresco, sip your Junglebirds and get into the vibe of that classy island life, roaming wild peacocks included.
Address: Capella Hotel, 1 The Knolls, Sentosa Island
Eat: The award-winning Il Lido at The Cliff offers a picture perfect Italian dining experience at its new home at the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort. The view out to sea is fantastic, framed by lush foliage. If you choose to sit inside, the experience is more intimate. And the food is, as always, impeccable, as is service. Don’t be tempted to pop the question (or do!)
Address: 2 Bukit Manis Road, Sentosa Island
