Villa Review: Cloud Nine Ungasan in Bali Is Exactly What It Sounds Like

This is Uluwatu’s most elevated address — where clifftop views, an infinity pool and a private sauna make you wonder why you ever holidayed anywhere else.

There’s a moment, somewhere between stepping through the front door of Cloud Nine Ungasan in Bali and reaching the pool terrace, when something just clicks. You see the lush greenery of the Bukit Peninsula hills, the infinite sky above, and the 20m-long pool catching the light, waiting for you to jump in. You haven’t even unpacked yet, but you already know: this villa is going to be hard to leave.

We can testify, it’s true. Cloud Nine Ungasan is one of those Bali villas where you can spend the whole day in. This fully staffed, five-bedroom villa is perched high on the cliffs of Uluwatu designed with the kind of ease that makes a large group feel immediately at home. Your only job is to show up and decide what to do first.

The Location: Villa with a Sweeping View

Cloud Nine Ungasan is perfect for staying in, but its location in Uluwatu presents a very good reason to venture out, too. It’s located in Ungasan, which sits at the southernmost point of the Bukit Peninsula — deliberately removed from the busier parts of Bali’s tourist trail.

Why choose Ungasan? While Seminyak has energy and Canggu has attitude, Ungasan has a pace that feels closer to the Bali people actually come looking for. It is the calmer choice, and consistently the better one.

Looking for a beach? Melasti Beach, nearby the villas is one of Bali’s most photogenic coastlines. Then there’s Garuda Wisnu Kencana (5.8km away) for a proper cultural escape. A little bit further, a 9-kilometre drive to be exact, brings you to the iconic Uluwatu Temple set on a dramatic clifftop and entirely worth the visit. Once you’re done with the exploration, head to Karma Spa (1.1km away) for a lovely massage, although your villa manager can always arrange for treatments in-villa (which is ultimately more relaxing right?).

While the villa comes with your own private chef, there are also dining spots to consider nearby. Indonesian restaurant Waatu (1.8km away) and the atmospheric The Cave Restaurant (6km away) are both worth the trip. Looking for a Bali beachclub experience? Sundays Beach Club (1.6km) is a top  spot to soak in the sun, people-watch, and lounge the day away.

The Design: Three Floors of Greatness

The villa runs across three floors, connected by a private glass elevator. On the ground floor is a king suite with a terrace and swing chairs overlooking the pool. The second floor is where most of the group unwinds: There are three bedrooms — two convertible to twins, one king suite, all with ensuite bathrooms. The top floor holds the primary bedroom with a private balcony, a hot tub, and views that you can frankly stare at the entire day.

The open-plan living spaces come with high ceilings, cool interiors, and the kind of indoor-outdoor flow that makes tropical architecture so appealing. A Ramayana carving here, and a thatched-roof wellness pavilion there, nodding to local tradition but with an overall modern touch.

The Service: Butlers, Private Chef and More

Cloud Nine Ungasan comes with a full team — villa manager, private chef, butlers, housekeepers and gardeners — on hand throughout your stay.

Want the bar stocked and the fridge full, before you arrive? Sorted, before you’ve even landed; just hand the team your grocery list in advance. Need itinerary recommendations? Just ask and the villa manager and our Guest Experience team will suggest the must-sees and plan it all for you, if you wish.

The private chef tailors every meal to your group’s tastes, cravings, and dietary preferences. Daily breakfast is included — from eggs your way to fresh pastries and seasonal fruit — taken indoors or at the open-air pavilion, at whatever hour suits. For the evenings that call for something more considered, a full in-villa feast is one conversation away. And yes, a robe is perfectly acceptable attire for all of the above.

Meals at Cloud Nine Ungasan can be as relaxed or as formal as the mood demands. Private chef aside, there’s also a pizza oven and wood-fired BBQ grill. Think: outdoor speakers on, a sizzling barbecue, and you can imagine the rest. Should it be feeling a bit too warm outside, there’s an air-conditioned indoor dining room seating 10 around a large dining table with an open kitchen beside it.

The Amenities: Serious Wellness

The wellness offering at Cloud Nine Ungasan is not decorative. The 20m-long pool anchors the terrace, with daybeds for the sun-seekers and outdoor speakers for the playlist negotiations. Steps away, a private sauna and ice bath pavilion. Hot, then cold, then hot again. It sounds punishing until you try it; after which contrast therapy might just become the highlight of your day.

Upstairs, a fully air-conditioned gym runs 24/7 alongside an open-air yoga and meditation deck with green views and mats on request. On the third floor: a private massage room for when the ice bath isn’t quite the vibe. You’ll also find an outdoor hot tub for up to 10 guests, overlooking sweeping views of the lush surroundings, and an indoor bar with a projector and retractable screen for the evenings that earn a proper setting.
