This Week in Travel: We’re Back! (Somewhat)

Travel news from around the world.

#1 All Aboard the Friendliest Train in The World

If you’re in Japan and wondering where domestic travel can take you, hop aboard the train on the Oigawa mainline from Shin-Kanaya Station to Senzu Station. A “Day Out With Thomas the Tank Engine” event runs from now until 16 October 2020 with daily trips around Shizuoka, home to Mount Fuji. There are loads of fun activities both on and off the train.

#2 We Love Rosé

It’s always Wine o’Clock somewhere! Image courtesy of Hotel Trio

No, we’re not talking about our favourite wine per se – although, we do love that too! Rather, Rosé the Robot is an innovative robotic butler that offers a touchless experience delivering wine to your room at the Hotel Trio in Healdsburg, California. The helpful robot effortlessly glides onto elevators and down corridors to find rooms, without human interference, while flashing a digital message, “I’m on a guest delivery.” Yes, please!

#3 Penguins Visit Field Museum

The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago may have reopened to the public, but its resident penguins recently went on a field trip, touring the nearby Field Museum. The Magellanic penguins, Izzy and Darwin, waddled around the empty museum ahead of its opening on 17 July, checking out the dinosaur exhibits and running from SUE, the institution’s famed T-Rex, a 40-foot-long fossil skeleton.

#4 Pack Your Bags: Bali to Welcome Domestic Tourists from 31 July

Can’t wait to return to Indonesia’s Island of the Gods? Provincial governor, I Wayan Koster has set out a three-stage reopening plan for a “new normal” era. Domestic travellers will be allowed to visit Bali at the end of this month. International tourists will follow suit on 11 September, an auspicious date according to the traditional Balinese calendar. Do note that all travellers will have to take a PCR or rapid test and submit extra paperwork before departure.

The Luxe Nomad

Like you, we love to travel but we think that staying at beautiful places shouldn’t come with a hefty price tag. That’s why we’ve gone out there and snagged the best design and luxury hotels and resorts in the Asia Pacific region at rates you won’t believe. WanderLuxe is our little corner of the world where we share our inspirations and thoughts about travel!
