#1 Ayutthaya – The Cradle of a Nation

Where: Bangkok

During the time when Thailand was still known by the name of Siam, Ayutthaya was its prized capital for a whole 417 years. Today, it is one of the country’s most prominent UNESCO heritage sites.

The ruins of Ayutthaya are spangled with holy shrines and statues of all sorts, all of which were used to decorate the capital. One day, the forces of Burma burnt the entire city to the ground and hid them from the world.

To our fortune, archaeologists have worked hard to unearth these sacred structures and masterpieces so that Thailand could once again have its pride restored.

#2 Bangkok’s Grand Palace – The Centrepiece of Thailand

Where: Bangkok

After the terrible fate of Ayutthaya took place, the ruler of Siam required a new display of his supreme power. It was then that he built one of the most impressive structures known to man – or a cluster of them.

Siam’s second capital is the epitome of Thailand’s wealth, with so many different and exquisite buildings tightly packed into its  218,000 square meters.

One of its most iconic attractions is most likely the golden chedi on the upper terrace, which strikes admiration into the heart of every observer.

#3 Lopburi Temples – Monkey Mayhem

Where: Bangkok

Although the still unrestored ruins of Lopburi bear a similar meaning to that of Ayutthaya, they are famous for a quite different reason. This is the place where thousands of macaques roam freely, unafraid of the visitors.

The monkeys have constant meals provided by the government that protects them, but they always like to grab a little more off the passing tourists, so if you’re eating a sandwich while passing through, eat it quickly and be careful! Shiny items also appeal, so keep your phones and sunglasses out of sight.

Oh and the site itself? This 13th century shrine features classic Khmer architecture of the time. Perfect backdrop to those IG grams.

#4 Tiger Kingdom – The Unfenced Zoo

Where: Chiang Mai

Who would’ve thought that humans could interact with some of the most fearsome predators on Earth? In Tiger Kingdom, big cats of all sizes and ages run free throughout their vast enclosures.

Humans are allowed to go in and interact with the animals as they see fit. Every tiger is healthy, non-drugged and hand-fed from birth, which is what makes the experience truly extraordinary.

Almost nowhere on the planet can a man get this close to these majestic creatures.  Trainers are on hand at all times, and of course people are advised to treat the cats with care and respect.

#5 The White Temple — Buddhism at its Most Authentic

Where: Chiang Rai

One of Thailand’s most iconic and ornate places of worship, here ancient philosophies of Buddhism meet modern art. It was conceptualised by Ajarn Chalermchai Kositpipat, probably the most famous Thai visual artist.

Unlike any other Buddhist temple, The White Temple was built completely in white, so as to symbolise the purity of the Buddha. There are various mirror mosaics strewn throughout the structure, to showcase true wisdom.

The temple also contains a variety of humane struggles, captured in the moment by skilfully crafted sculptures. They serve to show every challenge one must surpass in order to reach enlightenment.

And a gorgeous villa or two.
