Skip sakura season and catch these blue blooms in Japan

One park in Japan is awash in blue nemophila blooms (also known as baby blue eyes). It’s an absolutely stunning sight, and one that’s completely different to the millions of cherry blossom vistas you’ve seen before. The flowers have bloomed early this year at Hitachi Seaside Park, an hour by train from Tokyo.

The park is a 350-hectare floral wonderland all through the year, with early daffodils in February, tulips in April, and poppies in May but nemophila season is arguably the most stunning. Head to the Miharashi no Oka hillside to take it all in, then explore the rest of the park – you might catch the last of the tulips at the Tamago no Mori Flower Garden, and the first of the poppies at the Daisougen Flower Garden.
