Postcard From Here: Imogen Caldwell Swaps Swells for Snow in Niseko

Australian surfer and model Imogen Caldwell (@imogencaldwell) traded ocean breaks for powder days during a family trip to Niseko, staying at three of our signature stays: Niseko Kyo, The Maples, and Intuition.

Best known for charging waves along Australia’s wild west coast, Imogen Caldwell (@imogencaldwell) brings that same fearless spirit to her travels — even when the surfboard gets swapped for skis. In March 2024, she and her family touched down in Niseko for their very first snow trip, embracing Japan’s famed powder, local flavours, and onsen culture.

From the ski-in ski-out ease of Niseko Kyo to the serene luxury of Intuition and the homey warmth of The Maples, the trip struck the perfect balance of adventure and comfort.

What was the most impressive aspect of your stay with The Luxe Nomad?

At Niseko Kyo, the private onsen was a dream, especially after a day on the slopes. The location couldn’t have been better — true ski-in ski-out right on the family slope, and still walking distance to shops and restaurants.

At The Maples, we loved the cosy, spacious layout and the epic Italian restaurant down stairs. And Intuition had this peaceful energy to it — close to everything but tucked away enough. The in-house onsen there was next-level.

Finally, can you share personal recommendations on how to best enjoy Niseko?

Head to Green Farm Café, this breakfast spot serves amazing coffee and became our daily go-to. For beautiful Japanese dining right in the heart of Hirafu, reserve a table at Bar Moon. Every dish was sheer perfection! Finally, Rhythm Base Store is your spot for anything ski-related — the gear, the vibe, and the service.
