Luxe Stay: The Slate in Phuket, Thailand

Formerly known as Indigo Pearl, The Slate reaches new levels of luxury with
Feet in the Sand dining, an avant garde design, and its famous Coqoon Spa.

The Slate was the chosen resort for our much-needed escape. Prior to our holiday, we have heard great reviews and we have browsed through pictures of this beautiful resort. However, as we finally arrived, we really couldn’t believe our eyes. The photos really does not do justice at how dazzling The Slate is!

Previously known as Indigo Pearl, the resort which was inspired by tin mining, has been expanded and revamped. It conveniently sits on the Northern shore of Phuket, just a short drive away from its airport.

Designed by resort aficionado Bill Bensley, The Slate is a stark contrast to your typical white, contemporary luxury villas. Bensley has cleverly blended modern design with Thai heritage by using ray timber and brass rivets throughout its interiors. The grounds are completely surrounded by lush, dense rain-forest and is home to rare wildlife. A little more out of the ordinary is the fact that you can purchase all the art and furnishings you see.

There are are one or two bedroom suites to suit your needs. Ours was the Pearl Bed Suite, which was two bedrooms, with a massive walk-in closet, a balcony and a beautifully designed bathroom with a soaking tub.

Although most of Phuket’s resort restaurants serve pretty decent food, The Slate has built itself an impressive name in the culinary scene by the sheer volume of variety. There are several dining (and drinking) options from simple meals by its poolside bar, Shore Thing to more luxurious ones like Ginger – one of the most renowned and upscale restaurants on the island. Dinner at Ginger means hopping into a boat across a lake just in time to enjoy the sunset view and Thai cocktails. We highly recommend their fresh spring rolls, a dish native to Phuket as the perfect entree to start your meal.

If you are travelling with kids, fret not, as there are plenty to keep the little ones entertained. This includes having  three swimming pools, archery facilities and plenty of water sports.

If you only have time for one luxury, be sure to visit the Coqoon spa. The spa boasts six decadent treatment rooms, each nestled in the backdrop of Phuket’s luscious rain forest and designed to resemble nests on tree houses. Indulge in their specialty Thai massage and enjoy calmness and solitude in the midst of nature.
