How to Handle the Holiday Blues

Yes, the holiday blues are real.

It’s not easy going back to the humdrum of our everyday lives after an exciting trip in an exotic destination. Here are our top tips on how to beat the blues away post-trip.

#1 Catch up on sleep

The never-ending gatherings, family obligations and late nights can really take a toll on your sleep schedule. Bouncing back into the groove is just not as easy as it was in college. Extra snooze-time never felt so good.

#2 Hit the mat

Nothing beats the blues than practicing the now. Unroll your yoga mat and pull out your cork block for some meditative breathing and sun salutations. Limbering up with fresh oxygen can only put you in a better mood.

#3 Grab your greens (and yellow and red and…)

Holidays tend to lead to overeating. Fill your plate with veggies and fruit to top up your natural vitamins and mineral. A post-holiday detox can really help kick the digestive system back into its functioning normal.

#4 Limit alcohol

We do love our wine but all that holiday excess and indulgence can take a toll. Give your liver a break and grab a kombucha instead.

#5 Get together with friends

Maybe you saw too much of your family during the holidays. Take a break and catch up with old friends you wish you saw more often. Lift your spirits with some good company.

#6 Learn something new

It’s a new year after all. Enroll yourself in a class or pick up something new. Painting, pole dancing, pilates. Just go for it. You never know, you might find yourself with an amazing new hobby and a cool new set of friends to hang out with.

#7 Treat yourself to a spa day

Let someone else rub your worries and aches away with firm pressured palms, essential oils and soothing background music. You’ll be surprised how your shoulder knots melt away with a little holiday after your holiday.

#8 Book a weekend getaway

Leave the major planning behind. Pack your bags and book the first flight out of the city for a weekend. A change of environment and the different air will get you back in your best self.

Or, if all the above fail, drag out that holiday feeling for as long as you can. After all, Chinese New Year is just two weeks away and ski season is still in full swing.
