More than ever, travellers are concerned — or at least think about — the safety of their flight. AirlineRatings.com has compiled their annual list of the best to worst airline carriers around the world. 407 carriers were evaluated this year based on a number of factors that include the airline’s fatality record, operational history, incident and inspection reports.
Topping the list of the safest airlines for the third year in a row is the Australian national carrier Qantas — with a fatality-free record! Qantas has been around for 95 years now (can you believe it?) and has brought a lot to the table in under a century, mainly the implementation of proper flight data records and satellite communications used for monitoring aircraft engines.
Making up the remainder of the top twenty in alphabetical order are: Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airlines, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, EVA Air, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airline System, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Australia.
Got a fear of flying? Hopefully you’ll sleep (comfortably with your head on a neck pillow) a little better knowing that your flight is well taken care off. And now that we’ve got that to look forward to…
