New York-based influencer Jeanne Grey (@thegreylayers) checked in to the luxurious Niseko Kyo and Corniche Hirafu, blending high-end fashion with Hokkaido’s powder snow.
From carving Japow in couture to lounging in ultimate alpine luxury, Jeanne Grey, the fashion and lifestyle influencer behind @thegreylayers, gives a masterclass on how to do Niseko in style. Earlier this year, Jeanne brought her husband and friends along to experience Japan’s sought-after slopes, staying at both Niseko Kyo, a boutique ski-in ski-out property in Upper Hirafu and Corniche Hirafu, a showstopping chalet designed by architect Ricardo Tossani.
From early morning ski runs to discovering local izakayas, read on to discover why Niseko has become Jeanne’s go-to winter retreat.
Tell us why you chose to travel to Niseko.
Niseko had already captured my heart last season, and when the opportunity arose to return this year, I couldn’t resist. The world-renowned powder and unmatched ski conditions keep me coming back, and with The Luxe Nomad, I knew I’d be getting the best experience possible — they never fail to impress.
Was it your first time there or are you a regular?
This was my second season in Niseko, and honestly, it only confirms that Niseko and The Luxe Nomad have the perfect formula for a luxury ski experience. It’s become one of my favourite places to return to.
What did you love most about your trip with The Luxe Nomad?
The seamless experience — from the moment I arrived, everything was taken care of. The Luxe Nomad properties are consistently on point, and having a luxurious chalet right by the slopes makes all the difference. I could focus on skiing, relaxing, and enjoying the incredible surroundings without a worry.
What was the most impressive thing about Niseko Kyo and Corniche Hirafu?
For Niseko Kyo, it would be the location without a doubt. Being able to step out of the property and onto the slopes was beyond convenient. The view of Mount Yotei, especially in the early morning light, was truly unforgettable.
The design and ambience of Corniche was also a standout. The Luxe Nomad properties in general make for a perfect winter retreat.
Lastly, can you share personal recommendations on how to best enjoy Niseko for those planning a trip?
First, start your ski day early. Niseko’s powder is at its best in the morning, and there’s nothing like carving through the untouched snow.
Then, do as the Japanese do and unwind at an onsen. After a day on the slopes, a soak in your private onsen is pure bliss.
Don’t forget to try the local izakayas in Hirafu Village — Niseko’s food scene is just as special as its slopes. These cosy spots offer incredible dishes and an authentic après-ski experience.
