Anyone who loves the journey as much as the destination will need to make a trip to Japan in 2018! The Japanese rail company, Seibu Railway, has just released their plans for a train that will appear to almost disappear in any environment it’s in. This new design comes in celebration of the railway group’s 100th anniversary.
“The limited express travels in a variety of different sceneries, from the mountains of Chichibu, to the middle of Tokyo, and I thought it would be good if the train could gently coexist with this variety of scenery,” said the designer, Pritzker Prize-winning designer Kazuyo Sejima.
The train is made using mirrored exterior that reflects its passing surroundings, allowing it to blend in seamlessly with the views. On the inside, it will have an “intimate living room” design where “people can spend their free time in their own way,” said the group. “We aim to provide a new public space, almost park-like, where people will come together. It’s more than just a means of movement, it’s a destination in its own right.”
Where to see and be seen.
