The 5 most awkward moments from Donald Trump’s UK visit

Donald Trump’s much-awaited visit to London has set tongues wagging more about the many adjacent moments than about the whole point of his visit, which was to discuss a post-Brexit trade deal between the US and UK.

But when you have a blimp of Trump as a diaper-wearing baby holding a mobile phone, it’s hard to even focus on life.

Trump Baby soared over the Houses of Parliament, kicking off the citywide protests during the US president’s visit, which also experienced other harmless, if not hilarious, speedbumps.

#1 Trump walked in front the Queen

The summer heat alone would have caused a few of the Coldstream Guards to sweat in their bearskin hats, but then this happened. During an inspection of the guard with Queen Elizabeth II, Trump took a few steps ahead of the monarch before coming to an abrupt stop, blocking her path and forcing her to dodge around awkwardly. Cue outrage on social media.

#2 The best protest sign goes to…

London’s Trump protests would not have been the same without these outstanding signs. Our favourite is the one that read “Feed him to the corgis”, though we’re pretty sure the Queen’s sweet corgis don’t have a taste for big egos.

Another great protest sign was a parody of the song Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins.

#3 The paragliding protester

And here we thought that Trump Baby would reign the skies alone. On Friday evening, when the president was visiting his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland, a 55-year-old Greenpeace activist paraglided past the building with a banner that read “TRUMP, WELL BELOW PAR #RESIST.” Classy. The man was later arrested by the police for breaching the no-fly zone, but what’s done is done.

#4 Trump snubs a CNN reporter

CNN vs. Donald Trump is not a new feud, but during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May, Trump outwardly refused to take questions from CNN reporter Jim Acosta, declaring that “CNN is fake news, I don’t take questions from CNN,” before insisting that John Roberts from Fox ask his question. He also added, “Let’s go to a real network,” to which Acosta replied “Well, we’re a real network too.” Skip to 33:08 in this video for the heated exchange.

#5 The Scotsman article that didn’t hold back

Speaking of how much Trump hates the free press, Scotland’s national newspaper published this winner, calling him “an appalling human being.”

The Scotsman article also denounced him as a “racist, a serial liar, and either a sexual abuser or someone who falsely brags about being one in the apparent belief that this will impress other men.” Fake news?
